Relationship Anarchy Discussion Series 2019 - First Saturdays
Today's discussion focus will be: TBD
This event is part of a 2018 series of participatory discussion meetups focusing on Relationship Anarchy, including: exploring personal autonomy, dismantling relationship hierarchies/norms/expectations, egalitarian/empowered relationships practices, addressing power/privilege/oppression in interpersonal relationships and community, ethic/philosophy/politic of relationship.
RA discussion meetups take place on First Saturdays 11-1:30pm and Third Thursdays 7-9pm (attend some or all). Third Thursdays focus on both Solo Poly and RA, and will be "bring your own topic" day; in similar format to PolyTea we will choose anonymous questions/topics from the hat.
We often use breakout groups to facilitate in depth discussion, and sharing of knowledge/experience among peers, especially since some are less comfortable speaking in larger groups.

MDP Nonviolent Communication Practice Group (4th Sats)
We will meet monthly to talk about, learning, critique, and practice NVC!
Monthly meeting every 4th Saturday. NVC can definitely be a useful part of a practice of polyamory, or relationship anarchy, so we may also relate our NVC practice back to our relationships. (This workshop is NOT an introduction to polyamory, however, and will focus on NVC mainly -- please check out some of our other meetups for that!)
All are welcome, you do NOT need to be polyamorous or into open relationships to learn with us, but you should be friendly to and open to being around these things/comfortable with others talking about them.
Reading the book is pretty important to understanding NVC, you can read as we go or read it all ahead, can buy the book in print many places, but an introduction (first 35 pages) is also available as a free PDF:

Non-Monogamy Unconference Discussion Day
Free and open to all! An Unconference is basically a series of short discussion sessions, according to whatever the people who show up want to talk about (read more below).
Join Metro Detroit Polyamory at i3Detroit Maker Space, a local all-volunteer nonprofit community do-it-yourself workshop. The three i's of "i3" are "Imagine", "Innovate", and "Inspire", which we invite you to apply to your relationships and the many ways to practice them.
More details on the Unconference format:
Pen and sticky notes available for all attendees to post topics they are interested in discussing. As folks stick topics to the dry erase board, the facilitators will group the ones that seem very similar, and label each cluster of topics with a letter of the alphabet.
We also invite folks to offer to teach/facilitate educational sessions; put up a sticky with your name and topic, just like the other topics. Peeps will vote with their feet and participation is optional of course.
Once we've identified topic clusters by a letter, we will ask people to stand in groups under signs for A, B, C. etc. around the room based on which topic they want to discuss that session.
Each group will find tables or lounge areas throughout the i3 Detroit space, and talk about their chosen topic.
Sessions will be *slightly* longer than iteration #1 to allow deeper discussion.
After 30 minutes, the facilitator will call a five minute wrap-up. Then we will have a ten minute bathroom break, and start over with the remaining topics from the dry erase board for another round of discussions (you can then pick again what you want to discuss next!).
There's usually time for 3-4 sessions, attend one or all of the sessions. It's great to arrive by 1pm to get an overview, but you can also come or go anytime during the process if you're willing to just participate without a lot of orientation.

- Many canned soft drinks are provided for 50 cents, bottled soft drinks for $1, and Keurig coffee for free. All on the honor system.
- Everyone is welcome to bring snacks/drinks as desired and consume them on premises.

Owning Our Shit: A Peer Accountability Circle
This is a monthly peer accountability/support group for people who have caused harm to others in their personal relationships and/or communities, particularly people in the polyamorous and Relationship Anarchy communities. This includes consent violations, coercion, emotional abuse, harassment, physical abuse, bullying, and discrimination. The group operates on the premise that we are ALL capable of causing other people harm, and that we are ALL capable of taking responsibility and preventing ourselves from doing it again. We can help each other to face our shit and own it in a safe and confidential space.
This group is about self-improvement, transformation, figuring out how to be accountable, releasing shame, and understanding yourself. This group is NOT about making excuses for harmful behavior, victim-blaming, or shaming others in the group for their harmful behavior.
Although there are people who have organized the group and will guide the structure of each session, there isn’t any centralized leadership. Each participant is responsible for making this group a supportive place to challenge each other’s behavior. We trust participants to uphold the purpose of the group by calling others out who make excuses, practicing compassion and empathy, and giving constructive feedback that can help others change their behavior.
What is said in the meetings is to remain confidential, so that we can foster trusting relationships with each other and feel safe disclosing our shit. What you hear here and who you see here, let it stay here.
Please respect the other attendees, their time, and their disclosure by arriving on time. People will not be permitted to enter after 2:15.
The space in which the meetings are held is not free. Please consider contributing to the donation jar during the meeting, so that we can keep the group functioning in a welcoming and discreet space.
This meeting will take place on the 4th Monday of each month at 2pm.
